Essaouira Day Trip from Marrakech: Private Transfer, Prices & What to See — 2026

Published 2026-06-13 · 5 min read

Swap the heat and bustle of Marrakech for sea air, blue fishing boats and an easygoing UNESCO medina. An Essaouira day trip from Marrakech is one of the most rewarding excursions in Morocco — and with a private round-trip transfer, your driver waits all day so you set the pace, not the clock.

Why visit Essaouira on a day trip?

Essaouira sits on the Atlantic coast, about 190 km west of Marrakech — roughly 2h45 to 3 hours of driving each way on the N8/R207. That makes it very doable as a full-day round trip: leave in the morning, spend the afternoon by the sea, and be back in Marrakech for dinner.

The appeal is its contrast with Marrakech. Where the Red City is dense and intense, Essaouira is breezy, walkable and relaxed. You get a working fishing port, a wind-swept Atlantic beach, and a fortified medina that's a UNESCO World Heritage Site — all within a compact, flat town you can explore on foot.

The Skala de la Ville — the sea ramparts lined with old bronze cannons, looking out over the crashing Atlantic. This is the postcard view (and a former Game of Thrones filming location — Essaouira played the city of Astapor).

The fishing port — rows of bright blue wooden boats, nets being mended, gulls overhead and the catch coming in. Lively and photogenic.

The medina — a UNESCO-listed old town of whitewashed walls, blue shutters, artisan workshops (thuya woodwork is a local specialty) and easy, grid-like streets that are far less maze-like than Marrakech.

The beach — a wide, windy stretch that has made Essaouira a hub for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Even if you don't sail, it's a fine place to walk and watch.

Stops along the way

The drive itself is part of the experience. The road passes through argan country, the region where the famous argan oil is produced. You can stop at a women's argan cooperative to see how the oil is pressed by hand and pick up some at the source. With luck, you'll also spot the famous goats in the argan trees, perched in the branches nibbling the fruit.

These stops are optional and flexible — because your driver is with you all day, you simply ask to pull over.

Essaouira day trip prices in 2026

Here are the fixed round-trip prices for a private Marrakech–Essaouira day excursion, with your driver waiting on site. The price is per vehicle, not per person — confirmed at booking.

VehicleBest forPrice (round trip, day)
Tucson (SUV)1–3 passengers€156
Vito (van)up to 7 passengers€178
Mercedes Class Epremium comfort€244

Why a private transfer over a group bus tour? You leave when you want, you stop where you want (argan cooperative, photo of the goats, a longer lunch), and you have the whole car to yourselves. There's no rushing back to a coach on someone else's schedule.
